I could weep. Have been trying to speak to former colleagues but is slow process.

Watched your video link Frankie, and been watching what news we get about it, now there's talk of a coalition gov. Seems to be playing into Americas hands

As opposed to playing into Moscows hands?

This is the opening of a new cold war. However things in Ukraine are not as simple as an east west split.

The President was acting unconstitutionally by giving himself extra powers, the people rightfully protested. Imagine if Cameron decided he wanted extra powers and locked up the likes of Miliband, what do you think the reaction here would be?

Ukrainians are proud and stubborn and not a people you want to piss off. Ukraine is a complex place due to religion, ethnography and history. It has always been divided between east and west. Out of all of the other soviet republics, Ukraine came in for the most russification, and the one that was most feared.

Moscow has its panties in a twist as it does not want to lose influence in a large neighbour or have the European union on its doorstep. The current leadership is on an ego driven mission to try and show that Russia has regained its super power status after the disasters of the 1990's. Hence high prestige events like the winter olympics and the world cup, intervening in Syria and rearming the military.

Kim the Ukraine people are in a no win situation and I feel for them, definite tension brewing between the east and west, the west know they have to ignite protests/demonstrations to get there feet under the door with Russia and china becoming more dominant with the way they gave the USA a bloody nose in the Syria saga, like always the political chess games only do one thing, innocent people get killed.

It will be interesting to see what happens next. The Russian speaking majority in the East are right to be fearful. My generation have not forgotten what the Russians did during Russification and the stamping out of Ukrainian nationalism.

This is not to excuse anything that may happen but to try to explain to fellows who may be interested but do not understand there complexities.
