Hey mate, first things first, you aren't alone and you're certainly not the first person to feel the way you do. I've done a little work with people that struggle with both anxiety and depression, mainly people in your age range and as someone who has suffered with mental illness for large portions of my life, I'd like to think I have some ability in helping others who face the same struggles.
I won't go too long winded, but honestly mate, if you feel you need to chat about things more in depth, ask Ed033 for my e-mail and I'd be more than happy to be an outlet for you in the long term.
At 16 you're far more courageous than I was to be able to come onto a forum like this and express what you have, and while things can often seem overwhelming and you can feel disengaged with society as your interests don't align with 'the majorities', life can also become the most incredible, loving experience at the drop of a hat.
Before you look at Marijuana as a viable solution (which it certainly could be), I'd consider how well you maintain your life in its current form. What is your diet like? Its hugely underestimated just how much of an impact this has on your mental state. Recently Dr Ronda Patrick did a talk about the discovery of a direct line from your gut to your brain. I can't remember the medical term for the line, but think of it as a vein. A thin inner tube that goes directly from your gut to your brain. And studies have begun to show that if your gut health is poor (most peoples are), it has a direct effect on your state of mind. Also, doctors in the US have begun taking a stand against Pharmaceutical companies, by prescribing patients fruit and vegetables, rather than anti depressants anti anxiety pills etc. as the human diet is so far out of whack with what it should be.
Secondly how much do you exercise? You've obviously a football fan mate (and luckily support the best team in the world) do you play? Exercise is huge for your mental health as it not only can improve your bodily functions, but while exercising we release endorphins that make us feel good. And if you go to the gym etc. you begin to feel proud of your body which in turn makes you feel better about yourself. I found Jiu Jitsu helped me in some of my darker days, as it helps give you confidence that you can protect yourself, so you go into situations not as worried about being hurt by someone else. A strange thing to worry about as a kid, but I have lived a strange life and its a common worry amongst men.
I know, as a starting point, those sound condescending as suggestions, and I know how I felt at 16 when someone would tell you that stuff. But I promise you mate, there's reason they do. Its simple but helps a huge amount.
I'd also consider mindfulness or another form of meditation. I get my Buddha on, probably 2-3 times a week. Sometimes for 15 mins, sometimes for upwards of an hour. What meditation does for me is calm my mind, make me view my life from an objective stand point, and allows me not to get upset by someone else's opinions. Trust me, I'm the black sheep in my family for my past drug history and views on the world, but I've learnt over time that its just a difference of opinions. I have complete faith in my beliefs, and I'm secure enough in them that someone questioning them has no emotional effect on me. Not everyone has to agree with you in this life. Just like you don't have to agree with everyone, but just because you don't agree, doesn't mean you need to fight.
Generally I'd say jump head first into a joint and see if it helps, but at 16 (and I'm sure you hate hearing about being too young) you're cognitive abilities are still being developed. Although I believe Marijuana is solely a positive plant, with positive impacts, enough studies haven't been done on the effects of a developing brain for me to say jump in. But its certainly an option mate. Maybe just not the first.
There's far more info I'm happy to help out with regarding the subconscious, and also some Podcasts etc. that I think will help you feel more secure in your skin if you want to shoot me an e-mail mate. As I said just ask the Ed's and I'm sure they'll assist. Can't stress enough though mate, you're not alone in this world. Not in your beliefs or in our feelings.
