Turns out that on 26 March 2020, Anthony S. Fauci M.D. who is the 'top medical expert', who stands next to Mr. Trump at the COVID-19 briefings in America, has wrote an article in the New England Journal of Medicine, stating that COVID-19 has a fatality rate of approximately 0.1%, typically the same as seasonal flu.
If you missed it, the UK government appear to have come to the same conclusion:
"As of 19 March 2020, COVID-19 is no longer considered to be a high consequence infectious diseases (HCID) in the UK" - From UK Gov web site

As Donald Trump is possibly the number one expert on putting large Corporations into bankruptcy, as he's been through bankruptcy a couple of times before, maybe he was installed as President. Maybe he was told this was going to happen and asked to be President of the Corporation known as the United States. Maybe the reason he didn't get much done so far is because they were planning bankruptcy and the aftermath. Why would you do a load of stuff if you're only going to go bankrupt. Wouldn't you wait until after the bankruptcy to do stuff?

I'll speculate on why Italy is most hit in Europe. In the past, The British and USA have prevented countries from creating a new Silk Road / Eurasian Land Bridge.
Recently, Italy went rogue and signed up with China to the New Silk Road / One Belt One Road Project / Eurasian Land Bridge, which you may have heard of. There were a number of stories on this in 2019:
