The Reeves one I don't know but sounds very odd.

The Monroe file will never become public because the contents are too damaging.

I agree that is the long term intention. You can see it across the whole EU, Russia and the united states the slow erosion of civil rights. But i'd say there less than half way.

You list them things like its a bad thing. There is one thing to control to line the pockets of a few but when the people who don't need to know don't it's not always as bad as you make out.

Kim you are right it is not a conventional police state, it is far more clever than that, it's a bit like the nonce that aggressively pulls you off the street or the nice man giving you sweets, that's the uk the man that shows you puppys and gives you sweets, where as the other is the royhipnol and violence.

Remember he isn't that great. Look at the repression of the media, the murder of opponents and the infringement of human rights of minorities especially homosexuals. Not to mention alleged war crimes in Chechnya and Syria.

Depends ed. Putin is seen as a strong leader in some parts, and the fact a lot of the republican presidential contenders keep talking about him shows they take him seriously.

The inhabitants of a police state may experience restrictions on their mobility, or on their freedom to express or communicate political or other views, which are subject to police monitoring or enforcement. Political control may be exerted by means of a secret police force which operates outside the boundaries normally imposed by a constitutional state.

I'm just pointing out that what you call a police state isn't as close to other polices that are police states. Try present day Bahrain and see how that compares.

kim again comparing cold war russia to what is happening now is unfair, its like saying there is not racial tension in America but if you go back to the civil rights movement then that was real racial tension, in other words it does not have to be a carbon copy of what has gone before it.

And again I say its nowhere near a police state.

Cctv cameras don't prove identity. Nor does mobile phone tracking. i'd cards do. When they come in, and Brussels would like to. Then see the abuse of power.

When you have police on all domestic trains and flights able to question you, search you and even throw you off with no reason given then that's a police state.

When you see or hear of people disappearing in the night for remarks they've made previously then that's a police state.
