For those that don't know Novocherkassk in June 1962 Khrushchev raised the prices of meat and butter throughout the soviet union. At the same time production quotas were separately raised effectively decreasing wages.
The workers of the locomotive plant in Novocherkassk having had they're complaints ignored went in strike. The resulting two days of civil disobedience led to troops entering the town and left 26 dead 87 wounded and 116 arrested.
That's a police state.

no need to ask for documentation today,150 cctv cameras on average pick you up, phone/email tracking, you can be arrested today without a trial or a lawyer (ask melanie shaw) also the new bogus terror laws the same thing, police brutality is not the same as the counties mentioned granted but with civil unrest on the increase we will see the 1980s revisted, a example I will give you a example.
i am going to school with my friends, we are 10 or 11, a unmarked car screeches in front of us, two huge men get out the car and tell us to line up against a wall, thinking they could be pedos we run, cut a long story short they show there undercover badges and slap kick all of us for running then tell us to get to school, that is a small example of toxteth in the thatcher era,
I stand by my claim we are living in a police state .

Maybe. But till you open re education facilities, have people on the streets asking for your documentation, encourage people to actively spy on each other and have a general atmosphere of fear, suspicion and mistrust its not the same. You want to see a modern police state go to Beijing or Shanghai or Pyongyang or Riyadh.

And as I said yet. As growbun its more insidious. Here you have the illusion of choice and material goods. We had the reality of no choice and no material goods.

I mean in general attitude as well. Obviously back in 80s most of the psycho ones were in the units deployed to beat people up but some of them could be very polite and helpful.
Try talking to them now. Downright rude and ignorant. Maybe I've lost my looks. And that's when you can actually find one.
Contrast that to the Europeans or even the Americans.

Serpico springs to mind. American police forces are mafia like organisations protected by themselves from justice.

How disappointing.
Would you consider Lawrence of Arabia as well? I think someone said on here before that was suspicious.

Indeed, very strange. Even the nkvd took time out from slaughtering the population, the party and the army to warn him.
I will check out that film as well. You say Clive Owen and Jason Statham? If I were 20 years younger.
