America admits to dropping 2 nuclear devices on North Carolina in 1961. The devices which were four-megaton bombs fell from a B52 and one started it's detonation process but failed to explode. The US military has now declassified the documentation to this incident and it has been published through several media sources.
My knowledge of the 1960's political landscape in the US is not fantastic but I know that it was close to war with the USSR and possibly Cuba, would one of these got the blame so that war could be declared and could the US have beaten the USSR in a war?

Apparently a B52 broke up in mid-air and the bombs fell out. It was pure luck they didn't detonate, which is quite scary when you learn that it would have been 260 times more powerful than the bomb that hit Hiroshima. I don't know if the crew survived.
