Ukraine goverment has passed an anti protest law and a law agaist government "slander". Is ukraine the first country off many. Be careful guys, soon, disagreeing with a member of parliament will be a one way ticket to the cop shop.

True, True Franky. let's hope that when the time comes the next generation has the fight in them to stand up to this.
Can I also say, I have been reading this site for the last 2-3 years and think it's great, thanks to all the eds for giving us a place to go to express our views and learn from other like minded individuals.
On our own we are weak but together we can achieve the impossible.

Do you mean the first country not considered as part of the 3rd world by westerners?
I am pretty sure that half North African and West Asian countries already have a ban on protests and routinely imprison people who disagree with establishment policies, a lot of them journalists.
Also, expecting the next generation to clean up our mess isn't fair to them.
On a different note, sometime ago I said that there are no anti-establishment militant groups currently active on the planet. As it turns out, I was wrong. The IMF's representative in Afghanistan, Wabel Abdallah, was killed yesterday along with 13 other foreigners and 3 Afghanis.

Zari the Ukraine have put this in black and white which I find strange, they could do what we and the USA have always done and have agents infiltrating protests and start rioting to stop the protest then the main message in the March is swallowed up by the media in the riots, the battle in Seattle is a prime example in 1999, it got made in to a movie and if you are interested in this topi you can can get a stream of the movie online, it's a real eye opener and makes the Ukraine descion strange, what I find even more strange the Ukraine supposedly want to join the euro but that's a different topic.

Frankyscouser Ukraine has always been a split country. The West is Catholic and pro Europe. The East is Orthodox and pro Russia. It depends on which faction is in charge at the time.

Slightly simplified version, but long and boring. A lot goes back to days of the Czars. Under communism there was no religion and most of them were pro Moscow. The peppered vodka is nice though.
Interesting crossroads. The previous regime were pro European, the current lot are more pro Moscow, perhaps the reason why they bring in new law. Similar to ambitions of Moscow. Maybe trial it in Ukraina first then if successful bring it into the Rodina.

Aren't we all?
I suspect some old friends from PGU have been busy. The one who was poisoned? Mokrie dela, pure and simple. Moscow does not want to lose influence in neighbour. Lost too much influence in old Soviet republics already. Doesn't want to see German dominated EU on the borders of the Rodina. Not too worried about Baltic states, small border. Has Belarus as buffer with Poland. But Ukraine has long border and too near the oilfields.
Him in Moscow is determined to make Russia world superpower again, hence the Libya/ Syria strong talk. Can't be superpower if he loses influence over Kiev.
Apologies for the Russian, doesn't always translate well. Different alphabets.

Yeah governments seem to be taking the mickey an awful lot lately.
Over here in NZ they were found to be illegally spying on an NZ citizen (It was illegal to spy on a new zealand citizen) however instead of being held accountable for their actions, they simply passed a bill which made it legal to spy on all New Zealanders.
It's a joke.
