There is evidence of it within nature too. The golden ratio is believed to be involved in 'intelligent design' throughout the world, from the ratio of bee in a hive to the size and spacing on a Nautilus shell.

This is one of my favourite topcs, it fascinates me. I remember it features havily in the paintings and work of Da Vinci too
