I think Enemy of the State is very exaggerated though admittedly great fun.

An earlier Gene Hackman film, 'The Conversation' is probably more plausible. For those of you who haven't seen it, it's an often overlooked little gem, directed by Coppola when he was at his peak.

I disagree Ryan by the way it was directed by tony Scott who killed himself two years ago I think, enemy of the state was a movie I could have used in yesterdays poll with technology the CIA use that is not admitted to, no doubt Hollywood jazz it up but the subtext is there and big brother can and is used for the wrong purposes.
{Ed001's Note - actually Enemy of the State vastly underestimated the amount of surveillance that is done by the CIA. Far from exaggerated, it was underplaying what goes on.}

Ed001 is quite correct. Given the film in question is almost 20 years old and they could do far more than shown, imagine the toys they have now.

CIA was always far more reliant on toys and technology than say Britain or Russia but they could be given the budgets.

Business trips to America were always tension filled and fraught with stress as you just never knew if you were being watched. And I'm talking 80s to mid 90s. Wouldn't fancy it nowadays!

Franky I meant more the plot line than the tech used. Obviously all the hi tech stuff is well within their grasp, and then some.

Ryan.
{Ed001's Note - is that exaggerated though? If anything it is probably shy of the truth, where people just disappear or 'commit suicide' when the powers that be want rid. Just remember Dr David Kelly, that is the kind of thing that happens, because people can never get away in the first place to go on the run.}

I imagine it happens far more than most people imagine. Very easy to arrange for people to have accidents, car crash due to mechanical failure, mugging gone wrong, small aircraft have such poor safety records, suicide, plenty of ways to remove someone who's a problem and make it look like a tragic incident.

Then there's plenty of people kept in line through blackmail. Nice little honey trap involving two hookers, a bag of coke, a hotel room and a hidden camera and bingo, you end up owning someone. Heck its how most intelligence assets are recruited. KGB were specialists. Look up swallows if your interested. As in the birds.

And as technology moves on so it gets easier. How long before the tvs from 1984 are fitted as standard?
