Anyone seen the news about the Gemalto SIM card hack by US and UK agencies? Hardly a whimper on BBC news thus far. Yet more evidence of the totalitarian tiptoe

Also, agencies spying on users through their computer hard drives:

Awful! Only way I can see around this (with regards to computers) is to create your own Operating System (since even open source systems could potentially be infested with such planted spyware) and build your own computers; but even then you'll find yourself reliant on manufactures which may be infiltrated, either knowingly or unknowingly. Then of course going on to the internet is very risky as agencies could download anything onto your PC easily. In short, we're screwed and there's no way of escaping it unless we stop using computers.

Hey,

Sorry, I can't seem to get the link above to work. Is it possible for someone to post an alternative method for me to view this story. It sounds quite interesting.

Much appreciated,

Article on the Gemalto story posted above by the anonymous poster:

Hey anonymous poster, I agree that it is not an easy task to ensure one's privacy, if at all possible without access to substantial monetary resources. Non the less, ensuring our privacy is fundamental if we are to protect the free flow of information. Human ingenuity has produced wonders before, so why not again?

Update:
It turns out that among other things, Gemalto also produces smart IDs for about 25 countries, most of which are in Europe and the middle east. They also produce residence permit cards and driving licenses for these countries.

Additionally, they also provide the U.S. corporation (not U.S.A. government) with security IDs.

I'd say, that is a nifty way for a secret agency to place its agents anywhere and everywhere. No need for fake IDs, licenses and passports, infiltrating government databases etc.

Zari definitely ;) so much easier.

Personally I hardly use computers. I don't use credit cards, everything is cash. Drives mr Philby crazy, but 35 years of habit is hard to break. When you have some knowledge of these people you take certain precautions. Nothing of value is stored electronically. Phone calls and letters deliberately bland. "Moscow rules" as mr smiley would say.

Trust no-one, always be suspicious, someone's always watching.
