If you don't mind me pointing out ed07 and I must say I agree largely with your posts and could never understand the sectarianism that you have seen but I have experienced some awful abuse from some Scottish folk. Working in oil and gas and working with plenty of guys north of the border I have been spat at called all the names under the sun and I do understand that you get idiots and in no way am I suggesting that it's wide spread but I was shocked that the hatred was stronger than I expected and it was more than 50% (of the people I met! Maybe I was just unlucky) I got all the same thing told to F off and go work back in England and all the usual tripe to some that wouldn't even speak to me! I took it in my stride and didn't make a fuss (and tried to joke about it which didn't go down well lol) the reason I mention it is because I didn't realise the hate that still does exist and it took me completely by suprise, I thought it was friendly banter but three weeks working off the Shetlands and it was a nightmare and I eventually came and found work in dorset. It's always the few that make it difficult for the sane people who want to get on.

{Ed007's Note - I can understand that and totally believe it although I have never seen much anti-English feeling I know it has went on - but did you blame the Scots for not you getting a house, did you say Scots prisoners are treated better than others etc etc and all the other anti-muslim garbage Southampton87 was coming out with?
I'd love to know who/where/when has been discriminating against white British for along time'.'
The Irish, Afrcans, Indians, North American Indians, the Aboriginal inhabitants of Australia, the list goes on and on but you'll be hard pushed to find any 'discriminating against white British for along time'. The British are even guilty of discriminating against other White British people.
I left college at 18 and started doing an 3 year apprenticeship as a plater/welder working CNCs etc and I had a boss immediately above my gaffer who never spoke to me in 3 1/2 years because I was a Catholic. Ask Ed001, when we've been talking about racism I've told him Scots have no time for racsim, we're too busy trying to find out if you're a Catholic or a Protestant.
Jimmy: "I see there's one of those Muslim guys started up in the top machine shop".
Johnny: "Is he a Catholic Muslim or a Protestant Muslim but?"
That's a true story I heard 2 guys having outside my office one day, when I worked in the engineering game.
The further north you go the worse the anti-English feeling is, down in places like Glasgow and Edinburgh nobody would bat an eye-lid.
Anyway, according to Southampton you shouldn't be up here in Scotland stealing our jobs and taking up our prison spaces. ;)

I worked in London the 80s and 90s, I got descrimated against, even though I'm from the south I was seen as a northern terrorist, but I had to grin and bare it get my head down, there was nothing in Ireland for me at the time, and I can safely say thenough worst jobso I had was working in the buildings for Irish companies, back breakers, and the worst ones are the connemara boys from the west, best companies I worked for were English boys, ironically my best mate was a fanatic Millwall boy, there I was a manchester united, celtic fan with a Milwall, rangers fan, I went to the den a few times with him and he used to say to me don't talk when we go in here, my irish accent would have got me in trouble in there, I couldn't go in to some of his local pubs, I bought him to cork for a few days and their I saw him getting descrimated against cause of his cockney accent, but we thought it was funny, he was lucky my mother liked him.

I grew up in the north of Ireland in the 70s was a young adult in the 80s . My first experience of meeting a coloured person was when I was maybe 8-10 years old 71-73. He had a uniform on and along with is mates was kicking the bejazus out of a couple of older boys. It left an impression on me. For a few years I assumed black people in England were soldiers looking to harm us.
Thanks to my father and a couple of teachers I've learned that 1 coloured soldier doesn't represent all coloured people but the uniform represented an oppressive army.
In to modern life, my work has taken me all over Ireland and the UK. In Scotland as you say ed due to my birth place the old, what team do you support was usually 1 of the first questions asked. In the north the old what's you name and where are you from, Travelling to England esp Manchester airport and Holyhead port you got more attention than you really wanted.
What I've discovered this last while is a quite a few of the "Irish" 2nd 3rd generation are pretty hostile towards immigrates and not really grasping onto the whole Irish spread around the world thing and how famine and war forcrd their generations before to flee there native land.
By far the most shocking display of racism I've come across is at present on the building sites of London atm where there is an open display of hostility towards coloured people from the Eastern European contingent. Its a world wide problem which stems from over nationality and over religious thoughts planted by the system as a method of control.

The plight of the Mexicans along the invisible line is another thing. White "Americans" force fed untruths and openly hostile to a race that not only existed long before an European set foot on their soil but had a civilization way beyond anyone else on the planet.
Trump feeds on America's insecurities and no doubt he has ample support amongst the Irish American community.

I hear you loud and clear ed. I was just surprised, people need to see the good in people and not live off the scabs of old wounds. I been a Yorkshire man born in 82 could not comprehend years of hurt pain and bigotry! But in the last 6 months I've had the absolute privilege to work with a man from ballymena a catholic dude and he is very well read and a gentleman in his 60s and I've had some wonderful convosations with the guy and he has told me chapter and verse about his childhood in NI and I understand it so much better now! I have always taken as I find and I think people need to see the bigger picture and what I am before an Englishman or anything is that I'm a father and that is my castle .
{Ed007's Note - You're not an Englishman to me, you're a human being, Just because someone has a different skin colour or believes in something you don't doesn't automatically make them your enemy.
I'm a practising Catholic, I attend Mass etc and it's quite an important part of my life. Do I believe everything written in the Bible, do I heck. Do I believe that when I die I will meet up with my dad and all the friends and family I've lost over the years - damned right I do and that's what keeps me believing in my Faith. I'd give everything and anything I have just to see him one more time. I don't ram it down people's throats and me believing in that is certainly not hurting anyone.
I've made some serious mistakes and took some terrible decisions over my life, some I regret and some I don't, but I made them myself. My parents gave me anything I wanted, I've never had to worry about money or where the next meal is coming from so the mistakes must solely be down to me.

Damn right ed and fair play to you mate. The hope is that one day everybody can understand one another.
{Ed007's Note - Thanks mate, maybe one day we'll get there but sadly I don't think the people here just now will see it.}

I honestly don't get it. Not to insult anyone or belittle anyone's beliefs. Everyone needs a code to guide them through life. But all the nasty petty things that seem to occur. Killing each other over old books that essentially say the same thing. Not socialising with people because they're the "wrong" code. Not being able to marry a person you love because their beliefs are slightly different to your families. I preferred being a godless communist. And yes that wasn't perfect either.
