You're the same as me, you're an Agnostic Theist.

I think I put Theist instead of Atheist, if so I meant Agnostic Atheist.

From what you're saying, you believe something created us, so I guess that rules out atheism. What you're describing may be creationism by some people's definition, but others here may have a better explanation than me. I think a lot of people think along the same lines as you. Like most people, I used to keep the door open to the possibility of a greater power, a god if you will, whilst rejecting the doctrine of any church. It's a great comfort to believe in a deity, and letting go of that is very frightening. Sadly, and I'm not trying to provoke an argument with anyone here, I think the whole idea of god is the greatest conspiracy of them all. For thousands of years it's been the most effective way to sedate the masses. Ryan.

What leads you to think we were "created"? I see no reason why such a thing should be believed with no evidence whatsoever, especially when we already know about the (very slow in our time frame) process of evolution!

These things are always hard to define. An agnostic atheist would imply that you do not know the origins of the universe - and perhaps will never know- but doesn't think the first cause would be a god more likely natural phenomena. What you are suggesting, that although you reject religion you still feel there needs to be a deity or god to start it. basically you see it as giving purpose. that would likely make you a deist. you see that a deity/god started the universe but that is all. deists reject any kind of personal religion whereby God interacts with us individually and can interfere with natural and physical laws. Hope this helps.

Jay, we could of been created without a God.

Maybe nature created a species and that species created us. ?

Jk92 I am with you, I do not believe in any god like I do not believe evolution got us where we are now, I think something we can't comprehend created us.

There isn't a single shred of evidence to even suggest such claims! Evolution is why we are where we are today! That's it! Some people don't like that fact, but their it is! Surely you won't actually deny evolution as the process as to our being!
May I ask you a few questions about your belief that someone or whatever created us? Because its already been proven that without a god or whatever, we'd still be as we are anyway because that's were evolution has taken us over millions, if not billions of years! I am sure you are aware that all of the atoms that you are made of come from a star explosion that happened billions of years ago, somewhere out there, so straight away that rules out this crazy creation thing! I'll be honest, I actually strongly believed what you are going on about for quite some time, to an extent anyway, but you simply cannot argue the actual facts or evidence that tells us the questions we all ask!
So anyway here's my questions:

1: what led you to believe in the creation thing? (I won't say creationism to you as I know you are not religious)
2: why do you think we must have a purpose?
3: what is it about evolution you don't agree with?

This is the first I've been on so much in a while, so thanks for kinda provoking me back into commenting again! Lol
And please don't take anything I say personally, I'd ask these questions to anyone, and certainly don't wish to offend! I simply enjoy this page as its where we all have our say with like minded people and I'll always welcome someone questioning me on anything that I may say!

Peace

That was me m8 who said "something we can not comprehend " lol, until jk92 answers you I will give you my two pennies worth.

1 we as humans are creating all types of things every day, who is to say we could not create a new species in a million years time?

3 the evolution thing to me would mean that every living thing on the earth would have to evolve its intelligence but to me since the theory that we came from nethanderals our intelligence has increased massively in a relatively short amount of time.

just my take on it m8.

I never said "something we can't comprehend created us" no name.

I was just implying with my post that we could of been genetically engineered by other beings.

My belief is:

I don't believe in God but I am open to there being a God, it's something we can't prove or disprove.

I DO believe in Evolution but I don't believe it created man kind, until we find the missing link there isn't any evidence to say we evolved here. but I could be wrong.

I DO believe in Aliens of some kind, I don't believe we are alone in the Universe.
I believe we could of been genetically engineered by some other species created by nature. I could be wrong.

So basically I am open minded about everything, until there is concrete evidence about any of the three then I will be open to any of the 3 theories.

Really interesting post, certainly one with more questions than answers.

Like Franky, I personally don't believe in God and do believe in evolution.

But I'm just not sure we know enough about our history to give too many conclusive answers - there's often talk about a "missing link" in the fossil record of human evolution.

And isn't it fairly well documented that evolution is a VERY slow process? (Too slow for humans to have evolved in such a short time frame).
I've read different opinions though and it seems even leading scientists can't decide (or simply do not know).

My personal opinion is that our history is and will remain a mystery.

The link below is just an example of how alternative history just might be possible.

After all, it's more believable than the bible!

Jay,

Evolution is not the all encompassing answer to how we came to be either. Science cannot definitively determine when or how humans broke from our ancestors. At one time it was a given fact that neandherthals and Cro Magno (a term no longer in use) couldn't have mated and one killed off the other. The latest science is that interbreeding occured between them. Darwin placed a lot of faith in random mutations to prove a lot of his thesis for survival of the fittest. Many modern geneticists would say this creates impaired offspring not stronger ones. The science evolves too over time and sometimes what was considered fact gets revised. As a species we have definitely evolved over a vast period of time, but, as of now, we do not know all the answers to how this took place. Some of us choose to question this in whatever way we can and the answer for some is a god, for others its some form of intervention that created what we became, for others its evolution, from an amoeba to a walking, thinking being (in the case of humans). Someday we may have proof of whichever is the right answer, the sure thing is that all of us will one day have answers. We just won't be in a position to debate and question like we can now.

How do we mean by "the sure thing is one day we will all have answers etc" Captain? Are you implying in the afterlife we will know? I for one believe once we die, the world turns black, you're put in a box in the ground or a furnish above it. Nothing more.

I think I am similar to many on here with the belief that a religious god is a ridiculous concept but a higher power is certainly plausible. Evolution is indisputable, however, the details are blurred and how we took the leap from creature to intellectually advanced creator is still not fully known.

No Melbourne, was not implying an afterlife when I wrote above, meant it in the sense that death brings an end to the questions.

As for myself I tend to think we may be more than the physical body we are. Whether that is some consciousness in the form of energy, I can't know. I certainly don't expect to go floating on clouds with a harp. I have no problem with evolution but it must also be recognised that there are plenty of people in the scientific community who question if it answers everything. Even Francis Crick thinks some form of intervention may account for our development. If as you say there is blackness after death then I won't care, as what I was will have ceased to be. While I'm alive I'll enjoy living, see as much of the world as possible, treat people well and question as much as my limited brain will allow. Right now I'm waiting for a live broadcast of the Sirius documentary to help address some of those questions, maybe.

I am on captains wavelength on this, once we die in our physical body then we enter a different dimension (a bit like ghost sightings )nothing religious about it, in some ways it could be another form of evolution abit like a caterpillar turning it to a moth.
