Here's one for ya. I swear this is exactly how it happened.
In the summer of 1998, just before the world cup, I was playing amateur football in Warrington. I arrived to pick up one of the lads on the way to training and just to make conversation, I asked him "who do you fancy for the world cup?".
He looked at me as if I was the stupidest person he'd ever met and said "It's fixed, France are gonna win it."
It kinda stunned me at the time and no more mention was made of it...it stayed with me though.

I was building a house in an area I have no connections too it was in a forrest!
At the end of the house build with not much left to do just painting, carpentry, and a bit of tiling, the workers left their tools on the left hand side of the living room as you walk in the door, (no one had keys to the house except me) the next day when we arrived on site and I opened up the house the tools were on the other side of the room?
2 of the 5 workers refused to work in the house?
What happened?
We later discoved that some people were killed had work related accidents working on other housing estates in this small development!

What the feck? That is crazy. I love stuff like this. If anyone has any more stories like this please do divulge. I may even tell you some about myself - they are perhaps slightly weirder than this so it would be a big leap of faith for me to tell you some shiz that goes on with me but I may just do that.

P.s. I agree with Mike you cannot fix a world cup event. It just so happens France were the best in the world then.

That's true, France were great. It's just weird the way it happened. And the guy who told me was kind of an empty-head. It was before a ball had been kicked.
