In situations like this, turn to Sir Patrick Moore for a more palatable explaination of the concept.

Don't they use dark matter to power sub light engines? Or is it dark matter to power faster than light engines? I forget

Dark Matter is a form of matter which we don't know to much about, in a nutshell what we know about it is that if it reacts with matter (which is everything) then the universe will literally tear apart, and that a piece the size of a grain of sand is heavy enough to out way the entire universe.

We have made Dark Matter, but in such small amounts that once they are formed they are met by regular matter and instantaneously implode.

My bad Ed, I believe I have. and all of the information I've got has been from documentaries and books over the years, I even looked back through a few of them when writing the post about what it is and what they are capable of. so if it is exaggerated it's by the authors/documentary producers and not myself.

The Moon. {Ed033's Note - The exaggeration i was referring to was when you said "a piece the size of a grain of sand is heavy enough to out way the entire universe" obviously, I could be wrong but this seems an exaggeration.}

That bit was from a documentary i was watching, they said something along the lines of, the universe was created by a piece of anti matter the size of a grain of sand so it is possible that when anti matter reacts with matter it will cause an implosion/explosion capable of destroying the entire universe.

Either they said that, or I misunderstood something.

I'll try and find out what the doc was.
