got up today to find out scotland is still tied to the suits down south, let me put this straight something so big that could have changed everything in the uk had to had more transparency than a secret vote, I do not trust the system, I am not going to ignore the no vote like some of the guys on this site but this independence run up reminds me in some ways of the coverage in gaza, go to the msm and they all tell you its close but they think the no campaign will win (as they did)go to the social media sites and its a monumental yes, then you go back to msm and they get people of the street like say a well educated no voter who gives there valid reasons why they want no, then you get a yes voter who clearly is not comfortable on camera and is made to look stupid, then you watch the yes and no rallies on the lead up to the vote /sky or bbc never showed you the masses especially in Glasgow voting for yes and that's massive considering the sectarian divide, put it this way something so big needs something big needs something were u can actually see who is voting, don't ask me how because I do not know.
{Ed033's Note - Wasn't it obvious the ruling class were gong to do their best to rig the vote to whichever way they wanted? (punch)
The propaganda scare tactics if there was a yes vote shows yes they were going to do whatever it takes to keep the alliance, hand on heart I reckon this vote was rigged.
{Ed002's Note - There would have been no "rigging" of the vote Franky. A much better discussion point is how anyone could consider voting without the word "Independent" being defined in terms of (a) what it means in this instance, and (b) what would it mean if there was a "yes" vote in terms of what happens next.}

Unless voting is transparent (full name, i.d. or some other unique identifier) and the lists are made public so they can be crosschecked by every individual, it will always be subject to manipulation.
"It is not who votes that matters, but who counts the votes".

Its a very sad day for scotlands people today there's some video footage of rigging already exposed on social media sites, I was a proud scot before today and ill be a proud scot after, the voices of the voiceless continue to be unheard.

We may differ edd02 on this but let's say your valid points were raised, do you hand on heart think it would get a balanced pro/cons debate in the mainstream media?
{Ed002's Note - Unless we know what "independent" means how can there be any sensible debate. If it were defined, then cases could be put for both sides and debated - the benefit not being the debate but the voters at least would understand the implications of their votes.}

Yes I understand were you are coming from and let's say independence was fully explained in black and white for the normal person on the street pros/cons, my bet that the cons would heavily outweigh the pros in the press, I will give you a example two massive corporations asda and Tesco were allowed to make a statement that jobs would go and food prices would rise if Scotland became independent, how the hell can that be allowed on a run up to a vote?how many people voted no because of that statement?we will never no but I maintain if we had a media not influenced by corporations then debating issues like this would be crystal clear.
{Ed002's Note - That is not vote rigging, simply tactics and posturing. If you cannot live with that then the entire democratic system would become unsustainable.}

I never said tesco and asda was vote rigging, it might sit right with certain people that food becoming more expensive is simply tactics or posturing, as for the democratic system its works for a small % of the population the rest are struggling.
{Ed002's Note - Democracy hardly works for a small % Franky. In 1980 Yolo, San Francisco and Alameda (Berkeley) counties to the democratic approach with the election and the Republican Reagan still got in to damage the world as much as he could. I recall a long discussion with my mentor that night.}

I will rephrase my statement democracy is working for less people today, drifting off the subject now but we are a country run by corporations not a country running the corporations.
{Ed002's Note - Democracy is working for a 100% of the Scottish who voted and did not spoil their papers. Corporations are not "running" the UK but have an input to how it is run - and there is a strong argument that the input is too high. Elsewhere they are buying democracy
In such cases all I can do is recommend you a book written by an old buddy of mine (Greg Palast) called "The Best Democracy Money Can Buy". When buying a copy make sure it is the UK release not the US version. It really is an enlightening read.}

Franky yes there was plenty of Yes voters taking to social media & what not the No voters were only voting for things to stay the same most of us didn't feel any need to justify ourselves or go on & on about it because our minds never changed. 90% of the Violence Vandalism & Bullying has came from yes voters many have been Vile and for that I'm really glad it's went this way. Also Franky I don't think you realise how much Hatred half of this Country had for the SNP & Salmond especially within Protestants. The SNP wanted to take the Orange order off the road & for many that alone was a big no no.

Zari, one flaw with your transparent voting system, if everyone can see how you voted on certain issues, then that data would also be available to the got and certain companies with vested interests in how you vote. I'm not sure I would want that being out there for them to look at.

Mort they have access to that already.
Every government agency has access to that data because they monitor every internet post, phonecall, text etc. one sends and receives. Those same agencies have already been caught sharing that data with private companies such as banks and other private businesses (only establishment run ones of course).
Any voter database contrived, corresponding to registered voters, registered citizens or any other governing mechanism would and is open to establishment manipulation, as they are the ones entrusted with their control.
Absolute transparency would end this farce once and for all by shifting the current imbalance. Granted the people would be incurring short term costs though infinitely outweighed by long term gains.
Without any intended pompousness, we should be proud voicing our opinions, sharing our ideas and standing up for our believes, for that is the only way to test them as compared to any other.
That is what I perceive democracy to be about.
Sovereign people comparing their inner reflections with those of others, in an attempt to reach a higher form of perfection.
Hiding ourselves to appease imposed masters its akin to turning gold to dust and casting it to the winds for it not to be stolen.
It achieves nothing, prolongs the injustice done to this world and its inhabitants, and ensures that the world inherited by humanities progeny would only be darker than the one we inherited.
