It may be different in the West, but going in experience of home, I can say most did have a certain air of superiority but is understandable. Same in any hierarchy. You are close with some, ruthless, no compassion, but depends on job. Your main description is more fitting of counter intelligence officers, the jolly boys at Lefortovo for example. To work abroad in black ops you need to be very intelligent, a social chameleon, charming but forgettable. To be in mokrie dela well that takes a special type of person, a combination of both.

Zari not everyone fits the profile you describe. A good percentage may do, but a good percentage will not.
You would find that many are highly intelligent, sociopaths or psychopaths.
A lot do join out of a sense of patriotism, you may scoff at that but in Russia at least, there is still a high sense of patriotism, unlike this country whereby a lot seem ashamed of their country or are made to feel ashamed.
In Russia it was a good career, in a society that can turn on its own as seen with Stalin and his purges it was better to be a wolf than a sheep. Many Party officials wrangled jobs for their suns.
The egomaniac adventurer types generally are discouraged, after all James Bond is fiction and not at all close to reality. There is little room for ego and heroics.
A lot of the job is boring and menial. Follow subject x for three days and write report in triplicate. Sit and read reports. Dull. Foreign postings do offer more fun, but then its hardly like Mr Bond.

What of the concept of a truth that has, does and always will exist utterly regardless of anyone's opinion of it? Must it too be converted into opinion so as to avoid offending somebody? This world where everything can be batted off as so much opinion is another symptom of what we have lost and why we are so lost and so easy to manipulate. pea
Read discussionHey anon,
I have to admit that you are not the first person to share that with me. An American ex of mine used to say the exact same thing. Perhaps, it is due to a cultural barrier.
In the culture I was brought up, people's speech is direct and laconic (evidently not my strong suit) while we rely on body language and intonation to signify politeness. Using that same example and to differentiate from one another, I would consider the American way of expression as the boundary between cordiality and "sugar coating".
Granted, my social skills require refining to appeal to international audiences but as the language used in communication is subject to interpretation and thus dissimilar to scientific language, chances are someone will perceive my speech as either sugar coated or pompous irrespectively of my attempts.
In the end of the day everyone has their own filtering mechanism for analyzing information. I consider that to be the regulatory system which controls ego interference in regards to analytical processes.
Allow me to assure you that were we communicating telepathically you would not detect pompousness nor condescendingness (patronization) in our communication or perhaps I am more ignorant than I think.

As we are on the subject of establishment agents what do you think such organizations identify in people to deem them suitable for such work?
Those positions do not pay much but do offer exciting work conditions as compared to mundane jobs. They also offer a sense of inclusion into a select club that satisfies certain peoples illusion of superiority.
In my opinion they go after people who consider themselves intelligent but are obviously not intelligent enough to realize how easily manipulated and disposable they are to those that run them.
Probably, the type of people who begin to comprehend the reach of the establishment on everyday life but with a short term memory (ego) and lack of compassion that makes them refer to those still ignorant of that fact as "sheeple".
It is easier to manipulate those already conditioned so they do go after people with principles, ethics and morality.
I see the recipe as being a mixture of insecurity and pompousness, some issues of unworthiness and a desire to prove ones self.
Disclaimer: This is not a personal attack on anyone, simply an analysis and an expression of opinion.

They really don't need to put them so high overhead, it does seem like they are blocking our view of the sky.
Artificial light also alters the natural cycle of human life and inhibits the proper function of the pineal gland. This in turn amplifies stress and shortens lifespan among other things.
It is also detrimental to the environment as a lot of species that require darkness for either communication (fireflies) or guidance (turtles) have seen their numbers steadily dwindle.

Not sure where I read this but old cameras had infa red on the lense but in the 90s they stopped it! Could be nothing wrong with why they stopped it.
Read discussionNot sure pal but the days of LED's and better light design I still cannot believe that we are running these horrid street lights that waste 80+% of the light they produce upwards (I cannot remember the source of this but did hear it)!
I am not an expert but even I would have thought by having more efficient lights would save money and more than pay for themselves in the medium term?

I have always had suspicion of Snowden. Not sure of motive, ideology is no longer such a factor.
He was not caught due to excellent network of safehouses.
The worry of Langley/ Fort Meade and others was not was released publicly but what wasn't said.
Countries already spied anyway and 911 gave them the legal reason.
Manning was a security risk and should never been in such a sensitive position. 30 years ago we would have been recruiting him. Blackmail is so much better than those who do it for money. Best agents are those who work on principle. Few and far between.

Kim I have always been suspicious of snowdon, he has been all over the world without not getting caught which is a nonsense, to me the so called whistleblower has only given information out that was already in the public domain, his outburst only done thing, giving governments a legitimate reason to spy on anyone, I have read somewhere that Snowdon is a cousin of the Facebook creator zuckerberg and for the record I think Facebook is a cia creation, Bradley manning for me is a true whistleblower, he embarrassed the USA and is now paying the price!

Read discussionRyan, I am not dismissing the claim that a ufo was sighted. I am rather wondering as to what purpose, if any, such sightings serve.
If whoever is piloting the ufo wishes to make their presence known then there are better ways of achieving that.
They do not seem to wish to remain hidden as they certainly have the technology to do so but do not use it.
Perhaps they have no interest in us and are simply performing their tasks without care of implications.
I am trying to make sense of their agenda and sharing my puzzlement with everyone in hope of a better idea.

Fascinating thread, thanks for all the input. Just goes to show how backwards the society that has been built for us, really is! We are told it (government, establishment) is there to look out for us but in reality its there to control us for the good of the secret rulers.
I love the idea of representatives of the public only serving on a short term basis and I think they should be paid very little too (maybe paid leave from day job plus expenses?). Of course, this will never happen, as we know, the corruption is there for a reason - to take even more of the money and power away from us I. e. The people.
Although its depressing, it is at least a small comfort to know that others see it too, by visiting forums like this.

Is saying about great people have greatness thrust upon them. Rome is great example.
I think should be limited to just 2 terms, 5 years per term then out. Any longer is bad.
Have you seen suggestion in America to remove term limits on president? Dangerous.

Yeah your right the elders were the rulers as they have walked in your shoes and have gained experience and on the whole were wise, maybe we could follow Sith America's politics were Bolivia or Peru there prime minister is a sheet metal worker and after three years he goes back to his job, why is it the most privileged people who have cone from a wealthy family decide what's good for the working people? Just imagine Miliband was a electrician and said listen guys and girls we have to tighten our belts, it's going to be a tough few years, you might not like what they are telling you but you know they have been in your shoes!
