Nicola sturgeon needs to be careful what she wishes for. If she pushes for a referendum what currency would they use if they leave us? Can you have british £pound currency that is in the EU in one country but not in another? Surely if Scotland get another vote to leave they have to take the euro currency. Not going to happen.

Mr.x

I'm Scottish and I don't think the euro would be that bad, I would rather use sh*t as currency than currency with "big Liz" on it. Scotland should be free of Westminster rule and a monarchy that's not our own. Call me all the bitter Scott you want but I'm not the only one who feels that way. FREEDOM!

Nicola sturgeon needs to have a long hard think anyway. She is someone who devotes her life to politics and has no respect for democracy. If you are that type of person you need to rethink your job choice. I will refer to a previous comment of Nicola sturgeon and although I don't agree with the result democracy has to be withheld . It was when a golf club put it to the vote for female members and it didn't get the vote and remained an all male club. Nicola sturgeon came out and condemned what was a democratic vote. Like or loath the result you have to accept it and that woman has not the slightest respect for that motion. She needs to change her line of work the woman's a joke.

The BBC 'ignores and despises' millions of 'ghastly' Britons because they do not embrace the liberal views of a metropolitan elite, a leaked memo has revealed.

Sweden will want one too and I expect Greece, Spain and portugal to follow at some point. It's been rocked to the core. Obama telling us we will be at the back of the queue. Is he racist then? I thought that sort of thing was supposed to have ended in America 50-60 years ago.
{Ed033's Note - i guess there's going to be more threats of disaster and even a false flag or 2 to try to prevent other EU countries having a 'Leave' vote and to try to get the UK population to beg for a 'Get back in' vote!

That's democracy at work folks! plus we got rid of dodgy dave as a added bonus, although corbyn is far from safe either, I voted leave but expected remain to win, the people have spoken, all we need now is for boris to get in at number 10 and trump to get in the white house, what a mind blower that would be, southampton87 would love to know your thoughts about this historic result.

I am no fan of DC but actually felt he left with a little bit of dignity in his speech.

also after the Germans said there would be no way back they're already clamouring to have us back. So don't celebrate just yet my. view is we will have a relationship with the EU just as before, just sold to the majority differently.
{Ed033's Note - Well, if people are going to vote, Conservative, Labour, Green Party, UKIP or Liberal in a general election again, then you're definitely correct, imo.

Instead of being pushed
But yes he did his best to look clean
But as always failed
I can't remember
Blair, brown, Cameron
In fact any of them
We need to stick together go to Westminster
And kick all the gutless ones out of office
Every second they are there they will manipulate it in there favour

Anyone that spills beans
And is still alive
Should draw suspicion
But he works restless and for that earns respect
And unlike others he lives in a flat not big house

And the amount of abuse he has received through the years for being and saying different
Deserves respect

It was a vote for lack of trust in politicians and the financial institutions. Great to see the look on some politicians faces when they realised a future step into a job in the EU is evaporating. Still 2 years+ is a long time and I wouldn't rule out the EU coming back with another offer. I just don't think it's going to be a clean break.

You might be right mate, I doubt the elite will give in without a struggle and some slight of hand to pull the wool over our eyes, main thing is the majority got it right, as long as we don't get forced to accept some watered down divorce of sorts then fine, we need to let the politicians know that anything other than complete control over immigration, borders, and trade is unacceptable.
That's the thing about democracy, if they don't do what we want we can vote them out, another 10 or 15 yrs of Brussels meddling and that wouldn't have been the case.

I wonder what TPTB were thinking when they thought of this. Makes u think about divide and conquer although they had us in a union which makes for easier control I just can't see what their perogative may have been behind this.

As we all know they wouldn't let us have the referendum unless they wanted us to have it.

I voted because EU is a waste of space
I voted because I wanted out
So did 60 percent of England
Remove London
It would nearly be 80
Fact is people Europe is not best for Britian
Now I would partition for Scotland to have a referendum on independence
I bet they do not take that chance

Becuase they only wanted to mess up England
Now everyone embrace this
Work hard and take back what we've lost!

{Ed001's Note - what has it got to do with a little England mentality? Some people are so PC it is embarrassing. Leaving will not stop immigration, it will just open it to people from other places than Europe. Just like it will not stop trade, it will just open it up to more of the world. The UK's success was built on trading throughout the world, it needs to return to that to have any chance of being any more than just a minor state.}

Got hold of my brother this morning, first thing after I heard about the result (gotta say i'm surprised) but he tells me there is a very tense and almost agro feeling in his office today between the in and out supporters, as well as on his way to work.
Could this be a divide strategy or am I looking into this too deeply?

frankyscouser

i am a bit shocked, thought it would be close but remain would edge it.

this was once in a lifetime vote and even thou I am fully left wing I voted out and will never ever vote ukip.

one thing is for sure lab will have to listen to working class people a lot more.

to answer your question jonesy even if we voted in the divide was already there.

As soon as I saw the voter turnout I thought it was an out vote. Low turnout usually indicates people are happy with the status quo. A high turnout usually means change. Like the last turnout this high was 1997.

And labour have a lot of work to do.

I was also surprised that such a high turnout yielded a leave result. To be honest I was surprised by the result.

And I'd be interested to know what others think of how safe Corbyn is now? In my humble opinion I don't think he can credibly lead an opposition party now, and like Cameron he should do the right thing and resign.

On a side note, I was quite impressed by Cameron's speech this morning. I didn't hear the full speech, but it is significant that Britain and not the UK was mentioned. I wonder will the status of Northern Ireland come up on the agenda over the coming months and years, as they voted remain. As did Scotland.

That's amazing, Scotland are voting overwhelmingly to stay in the EU but when it came to breaking away from London, they voted to stay. How is that?

{Ed033's Note - it's bizarre, but apparently it's known that most of the Scottish people somehow think that they can be independent while also being told what to do by the EU by remaining in the EU. How the Scottish people's logic works i don't know.

I live in Scotland and I am shocked at the percentage of remain votes. Out of all the people I had spoken to I would say 80% were for voting out. I would guess it's maybe to do with the older generations scared of change or what might happen but then again older members of my family voted out. If it was a 51%-49% for remain then fair enough but in some areas the split is too big for me to not think something funny is going on.

2 days ago I was explaining to my son about how things can work if we left and how most things wouldn't change that much and I mentioned about being british or something similar. He then said "daddy that's racist". I then said (and thought) what has someone said to you, what have you watched/ seen? I then explained to him more carefully what racism is.

I'm certainly not racist but in the last week and since joe cox's death there has been an incredible undertone appealing to sympathisers and women for remain votes. I don't think our country will be the same now for quite some time. There is clearly a resistance and I hope not too many just think "oh well, carry on regardless".

If it is a fraction remain which I think it will be although I hope we leave. I expect a big shift towards ukip. I'd love it if the polls are wrong.

Insanity is to do the same thing but expect a different result.

Oh the glum responses to any slightly higher leave results. Apologies for the multiple posts but my mum was swedish and came over her 18 years old almost 50 years ago. My father british. I consider myself british/ English and awake. Loving the way the mood appears to be changing amongst the reporters and particular mps.
